BIO

Monisha Leite was born in São Paulo, Brazil, 1970.
Monisha studied Fine Arts at ECA - Escola de Comunicações e Artes, at São Paulo University, where she began exploring and researching the relationship between art, spirituality and nature, participating in solo and group shows.

Since very young age, she developed an intimate relationship with the sea which would deeply influence her life and her work as a whole. As a teenager, she was driven by a relentless quest to uncover the mysteries of the human soul. This inner longing connected Monisha Leite with many different spiritual sources and self-knowledge paths.

She dived into the world of images, symbols and myths as an active member of the Joseph Campbell Foundation in Brazil for many years, and was invited as a guest-artist to participate in Joseph Campbell's Centennial celebrations in São Paulo in 2004.

Between 1995 and 2009 she co-founded and worked as Art Director at ‘Casa Sol’, an Art and Design Space, where she was invited to create artistic interventions and exclusive pieces for Absolut Vodka company.

In recent years, having moved to the sea-front, at the south of Bahia, besides dedicating herself to her visual work, she founded along with other artists the collective Cadêlelê Corpo Criativo, where she developed multidisciplinary projects, working as creator, actress-object-animator  and theater director of animated forms. Among these works, the show CRU – Contos Rústicos Universais (Universal Rustic Tales) - a piece of animated objects theatre that unites different languages - stands out and it was the winner of the Arts Award Calendar, by the Bahia Cultural Foundation.

Monisha Leite´s poetics expression is the resulting alchemy between her personal explorations about the human journey, the body and soul realms, her primordial bond with the sea and nature which ultimately led her to a profound connection with the Feminine Frequency of the World, with the Yin aspect of our Existence.

These are the raw material and nourishment that permeate her imagination and inspire her to create unique images of strength and delicacy manifested through drawings, paintings, assemblages, photography, mixed media and movement.
